MathePhysics is an inter-disciplinary research group led by Akshunna S. Dogra. We focus on creating rigorous theories of "Learning" (Machine and Biological), developing principled mathematical and computational models in various scientific domains, and general questions lying in the intersections of Mathematics, Neuroscience, Physics, and AI/ML. We take a strong interest in mentoring young scholars from challenged backgrounds.
Our students, contributors, and mentors hail from a wide range of places (Albania, Australia, Canada, China, Croatia, Germany, Grenada, India, Pakistan, South Korea, United Kingdom, and the United States to date). Better still, they harbor equally diverse intellectual ambitions, pursuing expertise in various nooks of mathematics, several corners of physics, and the many labyrinthine mazes of machine/deep learning.
Formally supervised students have gone on to earn postgraduate positions at institutions such as Oxford University and UT Austin and have found employment at reputable financial institutions such as Squarepoint Capital and Funding Circle.
धैर्यवतः सर्वं प्रवर्तते।
For the steadfast one, all things are set in motion.
Everything is a dynamical system if you are brave enough.
MathePhysics is honored to facilitate the selection and mentorship of Parvati Dhan Scholars.
Parvati Dhan scholarships are one time unrestricted grants, made to young scholars pursuing
academic work in any field of human inquiry.
Mrs. Raksha Dogra and her sons have established these grants
to honor the memory of her parents, Mrs. Parvati Devi and Mr. Dhani Ram.
The scholars will be selected once per year from a pool of nominations made by MathePhysics alumni, members, and affiliates, who will each be allowed up to 1 nomination per year. The selections will be made by a jury of respected academics assembled by MathePhysics (typically excluding its PIs/Leaders). Nominee CV and details may be forwarded to Akshunna S. Dogra by the annual deadline of December 31.
Award Amount: The number of chosen scholars and the value of their awards will vary each year. However, every attempt will be made to award at least one scholar per year with an amount equivalent to the World Bank's GNI per capita cutoff for low income countries (currently $1,135/year).
The long term goal is to support 3-5 awards per year, alongside any mentorship assistance the scholars may need as they plan their lives and careers.
The nominees must satisfy the following requirements to be eligible for the scholarships:
📅 Age: They must be younger than 25 years of age on December 31 of their nomination year.
🌍 Nationality: They must be citizen AND resident of a low income or lower-middle income country as defined by the World Bank.
🎓 Qualifications: They will not hold a Master's degree or higher academic qualification by December 31 of their award year.
⚖️ Legal/Financial: They have not been convicted, sanctioned, or otherwise made subject to restrictions by the Republic of India.
